About ISSAAS

Background of ISSAAS

The International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Sciences (ISSAAS) was established in 1994 to promote cooperation among agricultural scientists in Southeast Asia. The society was founded with key involvement from the Tokyo University of Agriculture, reflecting its strong commitment to regional academic collaboration.

ISSAAS aims to strengthen research partnerships and agricultural development across countries including Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. The society operates through national chapters and organises the annual ISSAAS International Congress, often in collaboration with the Society for Agricultural Education-Research Abroad (SAEDA).

Following its establishment in 1994, ISSAAS initiated its formal journal publication programme, with its first major scientific articles published in 1996. The Journal of ISSAAS continues to serve as a platform for disseminating peer-reviewed research in the region.

ISSAAS promotes collaboration across institutions and countries within the broad field of agricultural sciences. The scope includes, but is not limited to:

Agronomy

Plant Science and Horticulture

Fisheries and Aquaculture
